In September 2023, New Zealand Community Association (NZCA) applied for £2,400 funding from The DACP.
NZCA ran a food bank through from September 2022 until June 2023. With the funding from the DACP, NZCA will be able to reopen and support the community.
NZCA worked in conjunction with the Food 4 Thought Alliance and had a good partnership with them supplying most the food. NZCA donated £500 per month whilst the food bank was running to the Alliance, which also helped them provide the food, at a time when finances were under pressure.
When we started the food bank in September 2022, 15 families and individuals signed up initially, we also got referrals from Food 4 Thought alliance on a weekly basis. At the height of winter our numbers had swelled to over 80 families and individuals. This did taper off as the better weather arrived so that at the end of June we were helping 35 individuals or families on a weekly basis.
The area that we cover has many families that are on restricted budgets and low incomes, all age ranges, from young families to elderly residents.
