Project-Derby first applied to The DACP in 2020, since then they have received ongoing support for the brilliant work they do within the community. In 2022 Project-Derby successfully applied for £2,700 of funding towards their Community Allotment and Food Bank. This year the money funded was used to purchase a poly-tunnel. Enabling them to continue growing food over the winter, supplying their Community Pantry with fresh, locally grown produce.
Project-Derby is a constituted group of 13 volunteers, operating from a Derby Homes Community Room based at Tintagel Close in Peartree. They organise and deliver weekly activities including social mornings, Tai Chi class, dance, guitar / ukulele group, arts & crafts group and a community training programme. All whilst running a Food Bank, Community Allotment and Community Pantry.
The project has been hugely successful, now providing over 100 food parcels per week. Food donations were originally received from local businesses and private donations. As the Food Bank grew, they became a part of the Food Alliance Group and now deliver Citywide through either online self-referral or the City Council Community Hub.
In 2021, Project-Derby applied for £2,500 in funding from the DACP to help set up their Community Pantry. This is now a valued and integral part of the local community. Promoting food choice, independence, self-esteem and active community participation.
