In March 2022 TOGS applied for £500 funding from The DACP. They needed to supplement second-hand clothing with new, particularly school uniforms. They also saw an increased demand for bedding, including duvets and pillows. The grant received from The DACP helped the group purchase these items. In 2022, TOGS supported 573 families, representing 950 children. In addition to clothing, TOGS now provides bedding, toys, books and school uniforms and if space allows, equipment such as cots, prams, pushchairs and moses baskets.

The TOGS story starts nearly 12 years ago. In late 2011, Anthea was volunteering for the Derby City Mission helping to collect Christmas presents for the City’s disadvantaged children. In discussions with the social workers and other agencies, they highlighted parents living in extreme poverty struggled to clothe their children.

She began by collecting clothes for children aged 0-16 years in one box within her house, but over the next couple of years this project grew, and storage boxes were taking over her home. Fast-forward, they are now settled into 11-12 Friargate, Derby, a premises belonging to St Werburghs Church.
